N-1 podcast: The new Allied Able is a big step forward in performance, but also a big step overseas

Will people care that Allied isn’t making frames in Arkansas anymore?
4

Allied Cycle Works has today announced its second-generation Able gravel bike, which is just about every way is not only a giant leap forward from the original model that landed in 2019, but a fantastic gravel racing bike, period. It’s not only heaps lighter, but it also has a ton more tire clearance, it’s way comfier, it looks better, and it handles better.

Whereas once Allied prided itself on making frames in Arkansas, though, the Able is the brand’s latest model to shift production overseas – apparently for both quality and cost reasons.

Ok, so the new Able is a far better bike than the old one. Will the change in where it’s made put people off enough that they’ll no longer consider it, or does it just not matter for the majority of the buying public?

On this episode, I’ve brought on Allied’s director of product, Sam Pickman – and he’s brought all of the answers.

(And by the way, you can head here for my full written review of the Allied Able).
